Lawson hired to lead Alverno volleyball program
MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth has announced the hiring of Paul Lawson as Alverno's new head volleyball coach effective immediately. Lawson becomes the fifth head coach of the program which enters its 11th season of competition this fall.

Leyden earns AVCA All-America accolades
LISLE, Ill. -- Benedictine University volleyball standout Kayla Leyden, a junior from Elgin, Ill. (St. Edward’s Catholic H.S.), was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America third team for NCAA Division III, capping an amazing season for the young Eagles’ team.

Benedictine’s Leyden earns second-consecutive All-Region award
LISLE, Ill. -- Benedictine University junior outside hitter Kayla Leyden (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward Catholic H.S.) has been named to the 2009 All-Midwest Region First Team for NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This is the second year in row for Leyden to be honored with a first team regional award from the AVCA.

CUW's Roessler leads Northern Athletics Conference volleyball awards
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Northern Athletics Conference has announced the awards for the 2009 women's volleyball season. The awards, voted on by the conference's head coaches, include a 12-member First Team All-NAC, a six-member Second Team All-NAC, honorable mention selections, a six-member All-Freshman Team, a 13-member All-Sportsmanship Team and the four major awards of Player, Defensive Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year.

Two football, two volleyball NAC student-athletes named to CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Teams for football and volleyball were announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last week. Two football and two women's volleyball student-athletes from Northern Athletics Conference teams received honors. To be eligible for the honor, nominated student-athletes are required to maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average throughout their academic career.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- The Lakeland College women's volleyball team will head to Holland, Mich., this Thursday for a match against No. 1 seed and NCAA Great Lakes Regional host Hope College. The match begins at 7 p.m. Central time (8 p.m. Eastern at Hope).

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Junior libero Samantha Pagel surpassed 1,000 career digs over the weekend for the Crusaders at the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.

Raiders' Collingbourne reaches 1,000 digs
MILWAUKEE -- In MSOE's 3-1 loss to Edgewood College, sophomore Kathleen Collingbourne had 34 digs for the match on her way to breaking the 1,000 dig plateau in just her sophomore season. In two matches on the night, Collingbourne had 45 digs bringing her two year total to 1,043. For the Season, Collingbourne has 577 digs and averaged 5.11 digs per game.

Edgewood's Lueck reaches milestone in win over Rockford
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Edgewood College volleyball team snapped their two-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Rockford College. The Eagles dropped the first set before bouncing back with three straight set victories to claim the match, including a 25-9 rout in the decisive fourth set.

CUC's Gebhardt notches 100th career coaching victory
RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Concordia University Chicago volleyball coach Kathy Gebhardt earned her 100th career coaching victory on Sept. 8 as the Cougars defeated North Park University in three straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) at the Vikings' Carlson Gymnasium in Chicago.

Assistant Coach Balsiger chosen to lead WLC Volleyball
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Diana Balsiger, who has spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team, has been named the eighth head coach in program history, it was announced Friday. Balsiger replaces Heather Stelzer, who resigned from her position on April 30 after four seasons as head coach.
