MADISON, Wis. -- Edgewood College senior Shae Beckwith received a graduation present two days before Edgewood College's commencement ceremony. The senior women's tennis player was named to the CapitalOne Academic All-District 6 First Team for at-large sports. Beckwith won a pair of second team Academic All-District awards for women's basketball, but her first team selection this year makes her eligible for Academic All-American honors.
Beckwith, a native of East Troy, became just the third player in school history to win at least 50 singles matches, finishing second on the all-time list with 52 career victories. Coupled with her 46 doubles wins, 98 total victories is the fourth highest total in Edgewood College history. Beckwith won all-Northern Athletics Conference honors in both singles and doubles this season. At the NAC Individual Tournament she reached the semifinals in singles and earned conference runner-up honors in doubles with partner Laura Olsen. Edgewood College won a share of their fourth consecutive NAC title this season.
Beckwith is a double major in Business Marketing and Graphic Design. She carried a 3.93 grade point average while playing four years of basketball and three years of tennis. In basketball, she is Edgewood College's all-time career leader in three-point baskets made with 175 in 104 games played. Beckwith was the only Northern Athletics Conference student-athlete honored on the Academic All-District at-large team. She is the sixth Edgewood College student-athlete to earn Academic All-District honors this year.
Beckwith is now eligible for the CapitalOne Academic All-American team which will be announced on June 5. The at-large Academic All-District and All-American teams are open to athletes from all sports which do not have their own CapitalOne Academic All-American teams.
