MADISON, Wis. -- Head women's tennis coach Ben Oestreich has only been at Edgewood College for three years, but he's already left his mark on the highly successful program. On Sunday afternoon, Oestreich became Edgewood College's all-time winningest women's tennis coach with his 39th career dual match victory.
Oestreich's Eagles defeated Lakeland College 9-0 on Sunday, to improve to 10-2 on the season and push himself past Stu Schaefer on the all-time wins list. Schaefer had three separate stints as the Eagles' head coach (1992-96, 2000-02, 2009) accumulating a record of 38-30. Oestreich's 2010-11 team set a school record with 17 victories in a single season. Under Oestreich (pronounced "A-strike"), the Eagles have a 30-3 record in Northern Athletics Conference dual matches.
Edgewood College won a share of their fourth consecutive Northern Athletics Conference title last night when Wisconsin Lutheran College knocked off Concordia University Wisconsin 8-1 in Milwaukee. The Eagles and Concordia Wisconsin will each earn a share of the title with 10-1 records, while Wisconsin Lutheran can also grab a share of the crown with a victory over Alverno College on Saturday.
The Eagles will conclude their fall season with a pair of dual matches against St. Norbert College and UW-Stout on Sunday, prior to hosting the NAC Individual Women's Tennis Tournament on October 8-9.
