2006 Northern Athletics Conference Women's Tennis Weekly Awards

Kelsey Steinhorst, Edgewood College

Steinhorst improved her singles record to 11-1 and doubles record
to 12-2 with a trio of victories in each flight last week.
Steinhorst handily defeated her opponents from Marian College and
Wisconsin Lutheran in straight sets competing at No. 4 singles. She
then jumped up to the No. 2 singles slot versus provisional NAC
member MSOE, where she was also victorious. In doubles competition,
Steinhorst and partner Bridget Prendergast went undefeated against
Wisconsin Lutheran at No. 3 doubles and MSOE and Rockford College
in No. 2 doubles.

September 18-24
Rachel Wendt, Wisconsin Lutheran College

Wendt went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play last week.
Playing No. 4 singles against Rockford College on Wednesday, she
defeated Crystal Davidson 6-0, 6-0. She then won her No. 2 doubles
match 8-1. On Saturday, Wendt returned to her normal No. 5 singles
position as she defeated Michelle Ames 6-0, 6-1, and again won her
No. 2 doubles match 8-1. The Warriors are 5-3 overall and 4-2 in
the NAC.

Heather Schwark, Marian College

Schwark went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 No. 1 doubles last week.
On Wednesday, Schwark defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College's Kara
Spiegelhoof, 7-5, 6-4. She later on teamed up with Lani Micheel to
defeat the Warriors' No. 1 doubles team, 8-4. On Saturday, Schwark
defeated Rockford's Laura Pugh, 6-2, 6-2, and then won the No. 1
doubles match, 8-2. Schwark remains perfect on the season as she is
3-0 in both singles and doubles.

September 4-10
Eileen Shanahan, Dominican University
...Junior...New Lenox, Ill. (Lincoln-Way)...
Shanahan went undefeated last week going 3-0 in both singles and
doubles play in the Stars three matches last week. The Stars (1-2,
1-1 NAC) split their conference duals, defeating Rockford College,
and falling to Edgewood.

August 31 - September 3
Emily Henrich, Wisconsin Lutheran College
...5'5...Senior...Milwaukee, Wis. (Luther Preparatory)...
Henrich started the 2006 season where she left off in '05, winning
her first match of the season. After losing her first set, 4-6, to
Jamie Lichon of Ripon College, Henrich came back to win the final
two sets 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 Singles match. The Warriors (1-0)
defeated Ripon College 5-4 in the season opener.
