Spartans Set For NCAA Tournament

AURORA, Ill. -- The Aurora University women's soccer team will represent the Northern Athletics Conference in the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. The Spartans received a Pool A berth after winning the NAC tournament championship for the fourth consecutive season.
AU will travel to Loras College on Friday, November 9, 2012, to take on Calvin College (15-4-1). Game time in Dubuque, Iowa will be at 7:30 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in women's soccer.
The Spartan women's soccer program, under the direction of Head Coach Troy Edwards, will make its ninth NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship appearance in the last 12 seasons, seventh trip in the last eight seasons and fourth consecutive appearance.
AU will enter the NCAA tournament with a school record tying 19 wins and a 19-1-1 overall record. The Spartans were the Northern Athletics Conference regular season and tournament champions with a 12-0 regular season record and 2-0 in the NAC tournament.
This season, AU is led by junior defender Janee Lange, sophomore midfielder Nicole Wolfe, freshman forward Nicci Bermudes, sophomore midfielder Lisa Bajkowski and senior defender Britney Schenck.
Lange was named the NAC Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference, having started in 19 games for the Spartans at the important defender position in the AU defense. The AU defense has eight shutouts on the season while allowing 0.65 goals per game. Wolfe leads the AU offense with 17 goals, eight being game-winning goals and one assist; Bermudes has 14 goals, six being game-winning goals and seven assists; Bajkowski has four goals, one game-winning goal and four assists; and Schenck teams with Lange and the Spartan defense for eight shutouts and a 0.65 goals-against average while also picking up two goals and two assists.
