AURORA, Ill. -- For the sixth consecutive season, the Aurora University Spartan women's soccer team hosted the Northern Athletics Conference tournament championship with Saturday's match up coming against the Sabres of Marian University.

The Spartan women would prevail over Marian 3-0 and capture the 2011 NAC tournament championship to go along with their regular season NAC crown.

Both teams brought a tough physical game to the match up and early in the contest saw the ball going back and forth with both teams maintaining possession.

AU would strike first in the 27th minute (27:22) with junior forward Raquel Rodriguez taking a beautiful pass from freshman forward Lorelei Ritzert. Rodriguez weaved through two Sabre defenders and blistered a shot past freshman goalkeeper Caitlyn Rosenberger for a 1-0 AU lead.

15 minutes later with 2:20 left on the first half clock, the Spartans tallied their second goal. Following a Sabre foul, junior defender Kaity Brough sent in a free kick from 40 yards out that found sophomore forward Jenee Lange wide open in front of the Marian net. Lange beat Rosenberger giving the host Spartans a commanding 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The score stayed 2-0 throughout the first 26 minutes of the second half but AU was not quite done putting points on the scoreboard.

Freshman midfielder Lisa Bajkowski dished a pass to fellow freshman Nicole Wolfe 35 yards from the Sabre goal. Wolfe promptly fired a shot above the out-stretched arms of Rosenberger for her 10th goal of the season and a 3-0 Spartan lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Liz Wong and the AU defense made the three goal lead stand up and give the Spartans their fifth conference tournament championship in six seasons of the league.

AU improves to 18-4 overall on the season and are 2011 NAC regular season and conference champions while Marian concludes the 2011 season with a 13-7 overall record.
