Lakeland's Christenson named Academic All-District

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Senior forward Amy Christenson of the Lakeland women's soccer team has been selected to the CoSIDA's ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District 5 first team for the 2008 season.

Christenson, a Dodgeville native, is an accounting major who is also a member of the track team. She has maintained a fantastic 3.98 grade point average while at Lakeland.

"This award speaks to Amy's nature and work ethic, in that she is always demanding more of herself," Lakeland head coach David Madsen said. "This is a remarkable achievement considering the difficulty of her major.

"I'm proud that our players take pride in being students just as they do as athletes. It sets a good example for our younger players."

Yesterday, Christenson wrapped up a stellar four-year career as a soccer player. As a co-captain known for her competitive mentality and non-stop work rate on the field, Christenson started all 19 games for Lakeland and finished second on the team with 13 goals. She helped propel the Muskies to a 10-9 mark on the season, including a 6-6 record in the Northern Athletics Conference.

"Amy's always going to push our opponent to the limit, and she's not going to back down for any minute of the game," Madsen said. "She's at her best when she can drive at opponents in one-on-one situations. She's very good at being that threat that opponents try and mark out of the game. Amy has been a good leader for us as a captain as well."

In 2005, Christenson was named to the Lake Michigan Conference All-Rookie team, posting five goals and seven assists during her freshman campaign. She was named honorable mention all-NAC as a sophomore in 2006.
