Edgewood rallies over final 2 days for women's golf title
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. -- Trailing by a single stroke after the second round of the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Women's Golf Championship, Edgewood rallied in the third and final round and came away with the title.
The Eagles shot a tournament-best 345 in the final day for a 1,063 total and won the title by a 12-stroke margin over University of Minnesota-Morris (1,075), who shot the second-best round of the day with a 358.
Concordia Wisconsin's Muriel McIntyre breezed by her opponents and took the individual title with a seven-over-221 over the 3 days. She carded a 76 in round one, 75 in round two, and then broke the single-round conference record with a one-under-70 in the final round of the championship.
It was McIntyre's fourth-straight individual title, as she was named NAC Player of the Year for the fourth time in her career as well.
Benedictine's Alexis Wadowski claimed runner-up honors with a +39 (253), 32 stokes off McIntyre's lead, and Aurora's Emily Densmore finished third with a 254.
Edgewood's Tori Wuollett had the top score among freshmen (280, +66) and was named NAC Freshman of the Year, while her coach Gary Oftedahl was honored with the Coach of the Year award.
The top 10 finishers (11 due to 10th-place tie) were named to the All-Conference Team.
In the team standings, Northwestern (Minn.) took third (1,090), followed by Aurora (1,138), Presentation (1,208) and Marian (1,234). Concordia Wisconsin (1,264) was seventh, followed by Benedictine (1,415) and Lakeland (1,497).
