MEQUON, Wis. -- This was a day of milestones for the Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball program. Not only did the Falcons (12-5) hand Dominican a 70-46 defeat, but CUW's Tiffany Hendrickson scored her 1,000th career point and the Falcons earned the 500th win in program history.
Dominican gave a strong account of themselves in the early going, leading by as many as four points (10-6) after five minutes of action. The Stars eventually wore down against CUW's half court pressure defense, however, and the Falcons pulled out to a 32-23 halftime margin.
Hendrickson (Sr./ Ingleside, Ill.) , who came into the game with 990 points, scored just four in the initial 20 minutes and from that point on everyone in the stands was calculating what she needed in their collective heads.
The anxious crowd knew that her third jumper of the second half, which came just 2:30 into the final 20 minutes, was the golden score, but Hendrickson actually added another hoop just seconds later before timeout could be called.
With that milestone out of the way, it was all about running away from the Stars. A 42-30 margin quickly became 50-32 and the rout was on.
Katie Luethe (Jr./ Oshkosh, Wis.) wound up as CUW's leading scorer with 20 points while Hendrickson (12) and Camille Parsons (10) also reached double figures.
Ten Falcons scored and eight players had three or more rebounds. CUW shot a warm 50% from the floor (26-52) while holding Dominican to 33% shooting (18-54). The red-hot Falcons, winners of six straight, were also 17-22 from the line led by Parsons (Jr./ Urbana, Ill.) 4-4 effort.
"I'm honored to be part of this accomplishment and proud of my team ... and all of the women who have been part of this history," said Brunner-Jones.
CUW, 10-2 in conference play, also held onto first place in the NAC North. The Falcons host MSOE on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Buuck Fieldhouse.
