AURORA, Ill. -- Aurora University has announced the hiring of Guinetta Edwards as the new head coach of the AU women's basketball program.

"We are very excited to have Guinetta become part of our program and university. She will have an immediate impact on our women's basketball program," said AU Athletic Director Mark Walsh. "Guinetta's leadership, enthusiasm and strong Division III philosophy regarding the student-athlete experience will lead to success for the program."

Edwards becomes the program's 15th head coach. She comes to AU with a great deal of professional and coaching experience having had stints with Air Force teams, junior college and high school. During her career, Edwards has been named Coach of the Year five times, including twice at Cuyahoga Community College and three times at the helm of the Chanute Air Force women's program. At Cuyahoga, she led her teams to four conference championships in six seasons while sending several players on to Division I schools. While at Chanute, her teams won two Air Force Championships.

"I am excited for the opportunity to be the head women's basketball coach for Aurora University," Edwards said. "We want to strive for excellence by executing hard work, discipline and values. By applying aggressive and relentless pressure on both ends of the floor, we will achieve our goals."
