MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team has received 94 points in the 2011-2012 D3hoops.com Top 25 preseason poll, the website announced Sunday.
The Warriors find themselves just outside the top 25 as they were the top team in the receiving votes category of the poll. Lewis and Clark, which is ranked 25th in the poll, finished just seven points ahead of Wisconsin Lutheran. Last season, WLC was mentioned in the receiving votes category of the poll in nine of the season's 14 weeks.
The recognition comes after a season which saw Wisconsin Lutheran finish 26-4 overall and win its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, a 73-59 second-round triumph over Wis.-La Crosse. The Warriors also finished 16-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference to win their third straight division crown.
WLC returns four starters from last season's team in senior Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and juniors Alyssa Allister (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), Krissy Day (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School).
Amherst College, last year's NCAA Tournament champion, was ranked as the top team in the poll. The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
Wisconsin Lutheran will begin its 2011-2012 campaign by hosting the Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament November 18-19. The Warriors will host Bethel (Minn.) in their first game of the tournament on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
