WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Dominican, which received 11 of
the 13 first place votes, was picked first in the Northern Athletics
Conference preseason women's volleyball poll, the conference
announced Thursday evening. The poll was voted on by the conference
head women's volleyball coaches.

volleyball welcomes back Schmidt as assistant coach
RIVER FOREST, Ill. --
The Concordia University Chicago volleyball team will benefit from
the experience of two Hall of Fame player-coaches this season. Mara
Schmidt ’79 returns to Concordia as an assistant coach under
eighth-year head coach Kathy Gebhardt ’96. The two coaches and their
combined 309 coaching victories (Schmidt 200, Gebhardt 109) will be
back together on the sideline when the Cougars begin their new
season Sept. 1 with a home match versus Augustana College.

volleyball standout Kayla Leyden, a junior from Elgin, Ill. (St.
Edward’s Catholic H.S.), was named American Volleyball Coaches
Association (AVCA) All-America third team for NCAA Division III,
capping an amazing season for the young Eagles’ team.

second-consecutive All-Region award
LISLE, Ill. -- Benedictine University junior
outside hitter Kayla Leyden (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward Catholic H.S.)
has been named to the 2009 All-Midwest Region First Team for NCAA
Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
This is the second year in row for Leyden to be honored with a first
team regional award from the AVCA.
