Cougars Break Records En Route To Weekly Awards

Concordia Chicago's Merrell Davis and Alex Schmidt were named the Northern Athletics Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for events of April 9-15.

Davis (Milwaukee, Wis.) broke CUC's school record by a hundredth of a second in the 200-meter dash with a finish of 21.74 seconds -- just a tenth of a second off the conference record -- at Benedictine's Eagle Invitational as he placed third behind a pair of Division I runners. He also placed second in the long jump (22-11) and third in the 100-meter dash (10.90) to score 20 points for the Cougar men's team.

Schmidt (Frankenmuth, Mich.) broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by over 28 seconds with an 11:42.54 (fourth place) at Benedictine's Eagle Invitational on Saturday. Her mark is also a new NAC record, over five seconds better than MSOE's Katelyn Hermann's previous record time of 11:47.58 which was set just weeks ago.
