MADISON, Wis. – The College Sports Information Directors of America announced today that two of Edgewood College's men's soccer student-athletes have earned the distinct honor of being named to ESPN The Magazine's 2008 Academic All-District 5 Men's Soccer Team.
Jerrid Dokey was one of three forwards named to the First Team All-District 5 after posting a 3.77 GPA while pursuing a degree in biochemistry. Through the 2008 regular season, Dokey currently leads the Eagles in scoring with 8 goals and two assists for 18 total points. He has scored 20 career goals and contributed five career assists in his three years thus far. The junior from Green Bay, Wis. will lead the Eagles into the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
The First Team honor makes Dokey eligible for Academic All-American status. CoSIDA will construct a new ballot including the eight all-district first teams and the members of the organization will then vote for who they believe is most qualified to become an Academic All-American.
Joining his teammate with the dubious honor is Tyler Duellman who was one of three defenders named to the Second Team All-District 5 after posting a 3.90 GPA in biochemistry. Duellman currently has two goals on the season and four for his career to go along with one assist. The junior from South Milwaukee, Wis. leads the Eagle defense into the postseason having not allowed a goal since October 17, a total of 340:30 minutes of play.
Dokey and Duellman are the third and fourth Eagle men's soccer student-athletes to earn the honor. Dan Butz and Mark Losby were the last to do so back in 2004-05.
