Dominican's Saldana flirts with NCAA record

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Dominican University's Juan Saldana (O'Fallon, MO) came within 50 seconds of setting an NCAA Division III men's soccer record on Wednesday when he scored three goals in a one minute 55 second span in the Stars' 9-0 win over neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago.

Saldana tallied his first goal of the game at 54:03 and scored his second goal just 47 seconds later at 54:50. Saldana then added his third goal of the game at 55:58. In the process, the 5'10" freshman, logged his first career hat-trick, scoring his fifth, sixth and seventh goals of the season.

The NCAA Division III record for fastest three consecutive goals was set back on October 10, 1992, by Ohio Wesleyan University's Mike Pepe and it is just the tenth time at any level in the NCAA that three goals have been scored by the same player in under two minutes.
