Rockford men's soccer team cancels remainder of season

VERONA, Wis. -- The Northern Athletics Conference has been notified that Rockford College is canceling the remainder of their men's soccer season.

The following statement has been issued by Dr. G. Steven Larson, Northern Athletics Conference Commissioner:

"Due to the lack of sufficient numbers of participants, Rockford College is canceling the remainder of its men's soccer season for 2006 effective immediately. The Rockford athletic staff has made every effort to try to find more players to finish the season. However, without a minimum complement of eleven players, it was in the best interests of the student-athletes of both Rockford and its opponents that the remainder of the season be canceled.

In terms of the Northern Athletics Conference standings, the games that have already been played vs. Rockford will not count in the conference standings. However, the games played vs. Rockford will count in the overall record for those teams."

To date the Regents (0-6) have played only two Northern Athletics Conference opponents, Concordia University Wisconsin and Edgewood College. Northern Athletics Conference teams that have not yet played Rockford will be allowed to schedule another opponent in their place, according to the NCAA Championships Committee.
