MSOE captures NAC's men's golf AQ to NCAA Championship

AURORA, Ill. -- MSOE won the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Spring AQ Meet today at Stonebridge Country Club, and combined with its second-place total from the fall's NAC Championship, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA III Championship in Greensboro, N.C. in mid May. The Raiders posted a 36-hole score of 629 at the AQ meet, 19 strokes ahead of runner-up Edgewood (648). Combined with the NAC Championship results from the fall the Raiders' two-event total -- which determines the NAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship -- was 1,270, eight strokes better than the Eagles' 1,278. Edgewood won the NAC Championship in the fall with a 630, with MSOE finishing second at 641.

The Raider's Dane Zachman posted an even-par-144 (74-70) at the AQ meet to claim medalist honors. He posted an event low two-under (70) in the second round.

Aurora's Dave Pecorella was runner-up with a 154 (76-78), 10 strokes off Zachman's top score.

This will be MSOE's second trip to the NCAA Championship as it finished 24th in the 2009 event, just a stroke shy of making the 23-team final.
