Averkamp named Academic All-District

MADISON, Wis. -- Edgewood College senior forward Charlie Averkamp chalked up another award today as he was named to the 2007-08 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team. Averkamp landed District V third team honors in the College Division. The College Division consists of colleges and universities from the NAIA and NCAA Divisions II and III.
Averkamp, from New Berlin, Wis., currently is the leading rebounder in the Northern Athletics Conference, grabbing 9.7 boards a game and is the second leading scorer for the Eagles, averaging 14.2 points a game. Averkamp has started in all 17 games he has played this season and currently shoots 41.5 percent from the field while dishing out a team-high 65 assists (3.8 per game). The senior excels in the classroom, achieving a 3.27 GPA while working towards a degree in business administration.
The award recognizes athletic and academic excellence and is voted on by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for voting, student-athletes must carry a minimum 3.20 GPA and must be a significant contributor on the court, either a starter or a significant bench player. Region V consists of colleges and universities from the states of Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.
