RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Demonstrating the 2012 Concordia University Chicago baseball team's commitment to defense, junior Shawn Miller (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) earned a second consecutive regional Gold Glove award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
The Cougars' everyday centerfielder since 2010, Miller earned his first honor last spring with a .990 fielding percentage based on one error in 100 total chances. Miller improved that mark this season with a .991 mark on one error in 113 chances. He was the anchor of a Concordia-Chicago defense that led the Northern Athletics Conference with a collective .970 fielding percentage and a league-low 52 errors in 47 games.
"Defensively, we feel that Shawn is the best centerfielder around," said Adam Smith, Concordia-Chicago head baseball coach. "Any ball that is hit in the air, we're confident that he can run it down. His consistency has been outstanding these past three years."
