Ortiz, Nicholson Earn Weekly Awards
Benedictine's Uli Ortiz and Rockford's Jake Nicholson were named the Northern Athletics Conference Position Player and Pitching Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for games of April 23-29.
Ortiz (Chicago, Ill.) helped the Eagles (23-14, 15-5 NAC) to four victories last week. The senior infielder posted three multiple-hit games as he led the team in hitting with a .529 average (9-for-17). Ortiz was walked four times and had a pair of RBIs and one extra-base hit.
Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill.) threw a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 victory over Edgewood on Saturday. He scattered nine hits and a walk in his nine innings pitched as he struck out seven for the Regents (22-14, 17-3 NAC) in his only appearance of the week.
