Adams, Nicholson Collect Weekly Baseball Awards
Aurora's Ryan Adams and Rockford's Jake Nicholson were named the Northern Athletics Conference Position Player and Pitching Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for games of April 2-8.
Adams (Geneva, Ill.) was vital in Aurora's offensive explosion on the week in which they averaged 13.67 runs per game. The senior outfielder hit .583 with six runs scored, eight RBIs, two doubles and was two-for-two in stolen bases. Additionally he had a .625 on-base and .750 slugging percentages on the week. In the Spartans' (18-4, 7-1 NAC) sweep of Lakeland, he went 6-for-10 with two doubles, drove in six runs and scored five. In a victory over the University of Chicago, he was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and RBIs.
Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill.) came within one out of throwing a no-hitter at Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday. The senior tossed his third straight complete game striking out nine batters and allowing just a single hit in the shutout victory. In his nine innings of work for the Regents (9-12, 6-2 NAC) he walked just three batters in his only appearance of the week.
