Winfield Named To D3baseball.com Team Of The Week

FOND DU LAC, Wis. --Sophomore relief pitcher Brandon Winfield was named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week after recording a win and two saves in leading the Marian University baseball team to a 5-1 record last week. This marks the second straight week that Marian has been recognized by D3baseball.com.

Winfield, who has yet to allow an earned run this season, was clutch in helping the Sabres to a 5-1 week and 3-1 start in Northern Athletics Conference play. After teammate Sam Forkert made the D3baseball.com Team of the Week last week for his first career no-hitter, Winfield makes it two weeks in a row for the Royal Blue and White.

The Ripon, Wis. native started the week off by earning a two-inning save against Lawrence back on March 28, helping preserve an 8-6 victory for the Sabres. Then in the NAC opener on Saturday, he closed the door with a scoreless ninth to beat Wisconsin Lutheran, 3-2.

Winfield capped off the week with three-and-a-third innings of relief, allowing just an unearned run and stopping a five-run fifth inning for Lakeland, before the Sabres came back and won 11-7 on the way to a doubleheader sweep.

The sophomore left-hander is 2-0 with three saves and his ERA remains 0.00 through 13 2/3 innings so far in 2012. The Sabres will be back in action this Saturday, April 7, hosting NAC foe Dominican University. First pitch is slated for noon at Herr-Baker Field.
