Aurora's Tim Mackey and Concordia Chicago's Dan Kluss were named the Northern Athletics Conference Position Player and Pitching Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for games of March 26-April 1.
Mackey (Rosemont, Ill.) batted .474 with nine hits and six RBIs on the week for the Spartans (13-4, 3-1 NAC). In the doubleheader split at Benedictine, he was 5-for-10 with two doubles, a triple and a home run with three runs scored and one run batted in. In game one of the doubleheader, he was a single shy of hitting for the cycle. In AU's doubleheader sweep of MSOE, the senior infielder was 4-for-9 with a triple and five RBIs. Defensively he did not have an error in seven chances at third base.
Kluss (Niles, Ill.) threw a complete-game one-hitter in Saturday's game-two victory over Benedictine. The sophomore right-hander retired the first 17 batters before he issued a walk on a 3-2 pitch. The only hit allowed was a leadoff double in the eighth inning. Kluss struck out a career-high nine batters for the Cougars (14-5, 2-2 NAC).
