Forkert's No-No Earns Weekly Award, CUC's Miller Also Awarded

Concordia Chicago's Shawn Miller and Marian's Sam Forkert were named the Northern Athletics Conference Position Player and Pitching Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for games of March 19-25.

Miller (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) batted .667 (8-of-12) in the three-game weekend series versus 19th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan in which the 22nd-ranked Cougars (11-3) took two games. The junior outfielder went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBIs in Sunday's rubber game, an 8-0 victory for CUC. He also fielded seven chances flawlessly with a couple of nice catches in center field.

Forkert (Sister Bay, Wis.) tossed the sixth no-hitter in Marian history on Sunday afternoon, as he struck out 12 and walked five in a dominant performance to defeat Finlandia, 1-0, in nonconference action. The victory didn't come easy as a walk allowed the potential tying run to reach third base with two outs in the final inning, but the sophomore lefty struck out the final batter for a thrilling finish for the Sabres (5-5).
