Spartan women’s soccer garner
NSCAA academic honor
AURORA,
Ill. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
announced its 2008-2009 College Team Academic Award Winners. The
Aurora University Spartan women’s soccer team, winners of the NAC
Women’s Soccer Championship for the fourth consecutive season, was
selected to the honor for their fine work away from the soccer field
and in the classroom.
The Spartans were one of 579 soccer teams (144 men and 335 women)
that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby
earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2008-2009 academic
year.
The AU women’s soccer program made its sixth NCAA Division III
Women’s Soccer Championship appearance in the last nine seasons. AU
captured the Northern Athletics Conference championship with a 10-1
regular season record and went 2-0 in the NAC tournament to capture
the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
On the season, the Spartans out-scored their opponents 62 to 19 (22
games). The Spartan women finished 2009 with a 16-6 overall record
and captured their 11th conference title in the 16 seasons of the
program’s existence.
