Both Edgewood College soccer
teams earn NSCAA academic award
MADISON, Wis. -- The term student-athlete
isn't just lip service for the Edgewood College men's and women's
soccer teams. Both squads received the 2009 College Team Academic
Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA). Edgewood College is one of 99 schools in the nation (all
NCAA divisions and NAIA) to have both their men’s and women’s teams
honored.
To earn the award, teams are required to have achieved a cumulative
grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2008-09 academic
year. The Edgewood College women's team recorded a team grade point
average of 3.36 last year, while the men’s team scored a 3.26
average. Head Coach Tim Alexander has coached both squads
simultaneously for the last 17 seasons.
This season marks the third consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award
for the women's soccer program and the second in a row for the men's
team. Nationwide, 331 women's teams and 143 men’s teams were honored
by the NSCAA.
