Edgewood College's Williams
qualifies for NCAA Championships
MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman Josh Williams became
the first Edgewood College men’s cross country runner to qualify for
the NCAA Cross Country Championships, when participants were
announced today. Williams was the seventh and final qualifier from
the Midwest Region and will run for a national title next Saturday
in Cleveland, Ohio.
Last Saturday, Williams smashed his own school record at 8,000
meters, running 25:05 at the NCAA Midwest Regional at Lake Breeze
Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. He placed 24th, but had to wait to
see if his placement would be good enough to advance him to the
national championship. When Washington University, UW-Platteville
and UW-Eau Claire earned team at-large selections, Williams became
the seventh highest finisher who was not already on a qualified
team.
By virtue of his finish, Williams earns All-Midwest Region status
from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’
Association. He is the first Eagle men’s cross country runner to
earn All-Region.
