CUC football adds team,
individual honors
RIVER FOREST,
Ill. -- The 2009 Concordia University
Chicago football team continues scaling new heights. This week, the
Cougars earned a No. 10 North Region ranking in the weekly NCAA
regional rankings released on Wednesday.
The Cougars broke into the regional rankings with their most recent
win, 44-27 over Aurora University on Nov. 7. The win improved
Concordia’s record to 8-1, both overall and in the region. That
record is also the best in the program’s 87-year history, eclipsing
the 7-2 mark set by the 1968 and 1987 teams.
"To be ranked at this point of the season is very exciting," head
coach Lonnie Pries said. "We feel great, but we know that the glory
is short-lived if we don’t continue to play well."
Running back Khyree Copeland (Jacksonville, Fla. – Potter’s House
Christian Academy) added another honor as he was named to the
d3football.com National Team of the Week. Copeland made school
history by setting rushing records for single game (221), season
(882) and career (2,292) all in one day while scoring three
touchdowns in a 44-27 win over Aurora University.
The Cougars will host Benedictine University this Saturday at 12:30
p.m. A win will give Concordia its first conference title in 22
years and an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
