Kosobucki to lead Inferno softball program
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Kristin Kosobucki, assistant coach for the Alverno College softball team, has been named the program’s new head coach.

“I’m very excited to be moving into the head coaching position and I’m looking forward to be able to continue to help the program strengthen and grow,” said Kosobucki.

Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth also looks forward to Kosobucki’s new role.

“Kristin is a fierce competitor, she’s a great recruiter, she’s a softball mind and our players will be able to feed off of her and everything she brings to the program,” Duckworth said.

Kosobucki has been the assistant coach of the Inferno the past two seasons and will become the program’s third head coach since its inception in 2002. Her familiarity with the program and student-athletes will make the coaching transition fluid.

“Since I have been at the school for the past two years I think the transition will be very smooth. I’m familiar with how the school works and the talent that we have both returning and coming in,” Kosobucki said.

“I’m hoping that it will be an easy transition for the student-athletes since we have already worked together and they are familiar with my coaching style. I’m confident that the team will be able to continue to improve and make necessary adjustments to gain more conference wins next season.”

The Inferno finished the 2009 campaign at 7-23 overall, and took 11th in the Northern Athletics Conference standings with a 5-19 record.

Kosobucki was a standout Division I pitcher at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where she garnered First Team All-Horizon League honors during her senior season. During that season in which the Phoenix won the conference title and a trip to the NCAA Division I Championship Tournament, Kosobucki boasted a 2.12 earned run average, good for third-best in the league, with 80 strikeouts and a 9-5 season record in the circle. She also racked up Second Team All-Conference recognition in 2003 and 2004, retiring a career-high 105 batters in 2004.

“Kristin brings a lot of knowledge to the program. Certainly from a recruiting standpoint to have such a standout local player who had a tremendous career at UW-Green Bay will bring continued legitimacy to our softball program,” Duckworth said.

The New Berlin native was also part of a successful program at Eisenhower High School earning trips to the state tournament her junior and senior years. She still holds the Division I State record for strikeouts in a state tournament game with 16 against Verona Area High School in 2001.

“I certainly look forward to her experience and connections to continue to propel our softball program to the next level,” Duckworth said.

Prior to coaching at Alverno, Kosobucki served as Head Freshman Coach at Waukesha West High School in 2007. She graduated from UW-Green Bay in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and resides in Muskego.
