Scheele named NAC Woman of the Year
MADISON, Wis. -- Edgewood College women’s basketball standout Megan Scheele has been named the Northern Athletics Conference’s Woman of the Year. Scheele, a first team All-American honoree by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and D3Hoops.com, will be the NAC’s nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Scheele, a native of New Glarus, became Edgewood College’s all-time leading scorer this season and became just the ninth player in NCAA Division III history to eclipse 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. She finished her career with 2,120 points, 1,047 rebounds and 53 double-doubles, the fifth highest total in NCAA Division III history. Scheele was also named a first team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

From the approximately 130 nominations from conferences in all three NCAA divisions, a committee composed of representatives from NCAA schools and conferences will narrow the list to 10 honorees in each division. From that group of 30 the top nine finalists, three from each division, will be selected. The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will choose a national winner among the nine finalists to be announced during an awards dinner in Indianapolis in October.

To be eligible, the female student-athlete must have earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and competed during the 2007-08 academic year. In addition, each individual must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2008 spring season and must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.
