Four teams capture major award as 2009 NAC Baseball Awards are released
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Northern Athletics Conference has announced the All-Northern Athletics Conference awards for the 2009 baseball season.

The awards, selected by the baseball coaches of the NAC, include a 15-member First Team All-NAC, honorable mention selections, a 10 member All-Freshman team, a 12-member All-Sportsmanship team and the four major awards of Position Player, Pitcher, Freshman and Coach of the Year.

Concordia University Wisconsin's Jonathon Olla (Kewaskum, Wis.) headed up the First Team All-NAC and was named NAC Position Player of the Year. The junior outfielder led the conference in hitting with a .489 average and currently ranks fifth in the nation. His .602 on base percentage also leads the NAC and is second in all of NCAA Division III. CUW finished the season at 22-17 overall and 14-8, which tied for fourth, in the NAC.

Aurora University's Steve Salazar (Carol Stream, Ill.), also a First Team All-NAC selection, was named NAC Pitcher of the Year. The junior right-hander had the league's best earned run average with a 2.12 mark and also led the NAC in batters struck out with 77. Salazar finished the season with a 5-4 record in 10 appearances. The Spartans (29-13, 16-6) took second at the 2009 NAC Baseball Tournament last weekend.

Rockford College's Jimmy Dercks (Kaukauna, Wis.) was named NAC Freshman of the Year. The shortstop had a .382 batting average and a .463 on base percentage for the Regents (27-14, 17-5).

Spiro Lempesis was named NAC Coach of the Year as selected by his peers. Lempesis's Concordia University Chicago Cougars (33-14, 18-4) won both the NAC regular season and tournament titles this season and are competing in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament this week.
